Movie Inspired Romantic Date Ideas

Tired of the same old plain dates? Are you stuck in a dinner and movie rut? Instead of just watching those romance movies with your date, try imitating them.

Some of these dates cost a few bucks, others can be done for almost nothing. With these date ideas right off the big screen, your date is sure to be swept right off his or her feet.

Warning: these ideas could cause scenes of graphic mushiness and displays of physical affection.

Set up a private dance lesson for the two of you with a local dance instructor. It is not to difficult to pick up a few basic steps in ballroom dancing, so you can still impress your partner even if you aren't as sauve as Patrick Swayze. Keep in mind that the Latin dances such as salsa and cha cha are "dirtier" with more physical contact than more traditional ballroom dances such as foxtrot and waltz.  

In The Princess Bride after Westley rescued Buttercup from the evil Prince Humperdinck, they rode off on white horses. Take your true love on a fairy tale adventure and go horseback riding. Contact a stable near you to make arrangements or make the date more like a storybook story by traveling to a scenic area to go on a ride. Scenic destinations could be the beach or the mountains or the forest or even the fire swamp. Most tourist spots offer tours by horseback. Some even offer private tours for a higher fee. Riding alongside your love looking at picturesque scenes all around, you will find your romantic date will be just as you wish.

Edward and Bella shared a romantic moment in a flowery meadow where Edward revealed his diamond-like skin to her. Create your own sparkling moment by going on your own meadow picnic. Find a secluded spot with beautiful natural scenery. Be sure to bring along some picnic food since you both are probably human. Sandwiches, pasta salads, chips, fruit, cheese, and deserts are good picnic foods. Extras to pack along would be a picnic blanket, plates and utensils, bug spray, hand sanitizer, and a camera to capture special moments.  Make the day even more romantic by bringing along a book of poetry to read aloud to each other.  

What romantic movie scene is more memorable than Patrick Swayze helping Demi Moore while she is working at a potter's wheel. Create your own romance by making a date to do pottery. You will have a fun time together and you will also have a unique keepsake to remember the date. There are ceramic shops that let you paint your own pottery pieces. Some studios even offer classes where you can make your own pieces from scratch. Looking for an excuse for another chance to get together? Make a follow-up date to use the pieces you created, like cooking dinner to eat on the plates or a coffee date if you painted cups.  Your date will say that it was such a good idea and you will have to say ditto. 

Richard Gere became Julia Roberts' knight in shining armor when he showed up at her door in his limousine. Have a glamorous evening out on the town by renting a limo for a night. Dress in your fanciest Beverly Hills attire complete with bling. Have the limousine pick you up at your house. Then go out for dinner at a fancy restaurant. Complete the evening by driving around town and feeling like someone important as everyone stares at the car trying to figure out which celebrity it is. Avoid this date in the late spring because you will be competing with prom season. To charm your date even more, make sure the limo in stocked with favorite drinks and snacks like strawberries dipped in chocolate. If the limo driver allows it, sprinkle rose petals on the seats and floors.

In the movie, Amelie makes a scavenger hunt for Nino.  She leaves a message for him to meet at the carousel at 5pm.  After following a set of clues, she returns his lost photo album.  Make a scavenger hunt for your amour.  Leave a clue at the beginning.  It could be a picture of someplace you want to go.  Write a time on it.  At the destined place, leave another clue leading somewhere else.  You can make it as complicated or as simple as you want.  Pick someplace significant to the two of you if you want to make the hunt more meaningful.  It could be the place where you met, the spot you had your first kiss, or the restaurant where you proposed.  Have a special treat at the last destination of the hunt.  Have a meal set up or have a gift waiting.
